In the late hours of the night, I tossed and turned in fear. Filled with anxiety and sadness for this nation. Knowing that fear pushes people to do strange things, beyond what they thought they were capable of. In a time of turmoil, we seek peace. In a time of uncertainty, it is time to not just talk, but to take action.
I fear for those whose family gave everything to be in this country. I fear for women who do not have a right to choose what they do with their own body. I fear for the LGBTQ community that is so dear to my heart. I fear for Muslims who need their voices heard. I fear for children and adults with disabilities that are not accepted for who they are. I fear for foreign relations and the refuge our country was once. I fear. And fear changes people.
Despite everything, we must not fear, we must take action. Now it is more important than ever. Not just with our words, but with our choices. We have the right to choose what companies we support, where we put our dollars, and how we support the community we are surrounded in. This is a call to end complacency and to listen to our brothers and sisters who need our help.
To my friends who are a part of attacked communities, you are loved. You are listened to. You are not alone, we stand with you. If you need help, do not hesitate to ask or reach out. Do not be paralyzed by fear, but be empowered by what you can accomplish as one individual to make a difference for the population you speak for.
Today is hard, and it will be a rocky time in history. A time where we may look back and mourn for our nation, but it is time of action. Do not hide behind Netflix or the busyness of our lives, but listen to the world bleeding for help. We have let harmful words become a leader, and now is the time to speak against words that shatter existence. We must speak in love to everyone, no matter if their view differs from ours. Love will conquer all, but we must choose to speak in love, not out of fear or anger.
My heart aches. It cries with a nation that is confused, hurt, and a little bit lost. We must trust that things happen with reason. Now is a crucial time to listen, to understand, and to educate ourselves about issues that face this nation. Now is the time to take action my brothers and sisters. Now is the time.
With Love and Light,
